We are pleased to launch today a new website for London based Redloh House Fabrics.

Built with the free WordPress content management system, the site allows Redloh House to showcase their work and the facility to update and add new designs/news.

To be fully prepared for the update here are some tips:

Backup your phone!
Hopefully your upgrade will go without a hitch, however it is not unheard of for installations to fail or worse still to cause data lose.

To make sure you are backed up before the upgrade you should either;

• Connect your device via USB to a computer with the latest version of iTunes installed
• Select your iOS device in iTunes under Devices
• Right-click (or Control-click) the device and select Back Up

or

• Use the backup feature from iCloud
• From your device select Settings – iCloud – Storage & Backup – Back Up Now

Once backed you can up you can take advangate of the new ‘Over the air’ update feature; this allows you to update the iOS system from your device without needing to download and update via iTunes. To do this from the device, go to Settings – General – Software Update.

Some features are not available on all devices and some features are country specific.

• Offline Reading List will be available on iPhone 4 or iPad 2 onwards
• YouTube built-in functinality has been removed on all devices, Google’s new app can be downloaded now
• Siri will be available only on iPhone 4S and iPad (3rd gen)
• FaceTime over a phone network requires iPhone 4S or iPad (3rd gen)
• Flyover and turn by turn navigation will be available only on iPhone 4S or iPad 2 onwards

WordPress was implemented as the CMS to allow easy maintenance and to utilise mailing lists via registration plugins.

If the answer to this second question is Yes, then you should seriously consider logging into any other sites that you have used that same password for and changing it there to something not related or a variant (i.e. do not simply add 1 to the end). As well as changing the account password for LinkedIn now that this has been compromised (you can check if your account has been compromised here).

It may not be the worst thing if your LinkedIn account is compromised, but you need to make sure that you haven’t let anyone gain access to your other sites, some which may be more critical. Generally users do not reveal any financial information within their LinkedIn profile. However a hacked account could get its connections removed which is troublesome if you wish to re-connect with your contacts. We recommend exporting the list of your LinkedIn contacts as a backup from their page here.

As you may have read in the news, LinkedIn’s password list was recently compromised by hackers (in addition to other high profile web sites).

Although the passwords were stored in a hashed form – hashing refers to converting a word into a longer series of unrelated characters to hide the word from being stored in plain text - on LinkedIns servers, hackers have been able to reverse engineer the hashed version back into the original words and therefore search the list for any other users with the same hash (and therefore the same password). For instance if you used ‘linked123′ as your password, once this was retrieved from the list of hashed password entries it is possible to easily find any other users who also use this as their password. It has emerged that ‘link’ and other variants such as ‘linked’ were among the most popular words in the passwords published.

We recommend not using words in your passwords, but rather a random string of characters. This brings with it its own challenges in that by their very nature these passwords are not memorable. We also recommend using a different password for each web login you use.

In order to make this workable in reality we need to use a program to store these random passwords for us. 1Password and LastPass are our current recommendations to achieve this. Both programs work on Mac, Windows, Apple iOS and Android devices and will automatically fill in the password for you when you land on a website.

There are a few steps to take when switching to using these type of programs; you ideally want to login and change your old ‘poor’ passwords and tell your program the new password (which it can randomly generate for you). All your passwords are then stored in a database and are available to you from any browser or from your mobile devices.

Is your email client (Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird etc) reporting that your Google password is incorrect even though you know it is correct?

This problem troubles a lot of users of the Google Apps product (both the free and paid versions) and has an easy, albeit annoying, fix.

If you receive either of these messages in your mail client :

web login required

or

invalid credentials

Check that your login details are correct obviously. If you know them to be correct, you have been locked out from your Google account.

To correct this, go to https://www.google.com/a/yourdomain.com/UnlockCaptcha (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)

Enter your login credentials and you should have successfully unlocked your Google account.

Many things can trigger the problem to occur such as;

• a weak password
• your email client checking for messages too frequently
• the password entered incorrectly multiple times

Some users report that they see less occurrences of this problem after increasing the length or complexity of their Google password.

A few months after the US launch, iTunes Match has arrived in the UK. Part of the iCloud suite of web based services, iTunes Match enables users to replicate all music held on their own machines with the versions on the Apple servers. Local versions are checked against the database of songs and replaced with a higher bit-rate versions where necessary.

The service costs £21.99 per year and allows up to 25,000 songs to be synched between 5 iOS devices.
