MobileMe launches ahead of Live Mesh
Apple have announced that the revamped .Mac service called MobileMe will launch this week. The improved service incorporates ‘push technology’ and is advertised as “Exchange for the rest of us”.
Aimed squarely at the non-corporate user, the service provides real-time synchronisation of email, contacts, calendar and files between multiple devices such as your PC, Mac or iPhone.
Current .Mac users are hoping that the service is fully ready for release and has not been rushed out to beat the availability of Microsoft’s competing service called Live Mesh. Previous issues with .Mac’s reliability have apparently been ironed out and the improvement in the user interface (incorporating the Apple-championed technology, ‘Sproutcore’) is substantial.
MobileMe goes live on Thursday 10th July. A guided tour of the service can be seen here.
